Angel Holmes Talks Building a Business Out of Fear, Career Accomplishments and More!
Q: Please tell us about your business experience. I’ve designed events for over a decade but it first started off as just a hobby. I’m a creative person and I’ve always had an eye for design so that played a major part in my decision to join the event industry. I started off designing events for family and friends to build my catalogue and from there Creative Touch Events was born. Four years later, I’ve now done almost every type of event there is from weddings, repasts, birthday parties, etc. Designing events is just a tip of the iceberg. There’s a lot of planning and coordinating that goes with each event. I’ve always possessed great communication and organizational skills which helps me succeed in my business. There’s a lot of vendors that play a part in a successful event but it is my sole responsibility to make sure everything not only looks beautiful but goes smoothly. I have recently added luxury event rentals to my business. I service fellow event planners, venue owners and clients with luxury event rentals to make their event beautiful. I have over 200 luxury items in stock and more being added on a monthly basis. My team and I provide delivery, set up and pick up services.

Q: What have been some of your biggest accomplishments when it comes to your business? My biggest accomplishment with my business is the successful transition to full time entrepreneurship. At one point I was doing events on the weekends while working a full time job on weekdays. I was always so busy and never really had time for anything else. I would even work on event decor for my business while on my lunch break from my full time job. I always dreamed of the day where I could successfully run my business full time without being financially dependent on my day job. That thought was always scary to me but now it’s my reality.
Q: What motivated you to start your own business? Honestly my biggest motivation was fear. Fear of not being able to spend as much time with my daughter, fear of having to keep working a job that I had no interest in, fear of existing but not quite living. That was enough for me to say “something has to change.” I didn’t quite know how I was going to do it but I knew I was going to get it done. All I knew was designing was my God given talent and I didn’t want it to go to waste. I wanted to turn my passion into profit. I wanted to do something I enjoyed while also having the financial freedom to make my own schedule so I can spend as much time with my daughter as possible. I wanted to put myself in a position to work smarter not harder and I knew I could do that.
Q: What would you say has been the biggest challenge to operate during Covid-19 and how have you been able to overcome that? My biggest challenge to operate during Covid-19 had to be all of the different changes that has come with the pandemic. A lot of businesses have been affecting greatly by the pandemic and the event industry is most definitely one of them. As an event planner, you are responsible for people’s happiest moments like weddings so just imagine planning a big day for a client and then it being canceled or changed at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. One of my client‘s wedding was completely changed one week before her big day. Of course it was a sad time for her and me as well but I had to put on my game face to get things done. Covid has brought out a different strength in me. I had to be strong for my clients while they were going through their saddest moments but through it all we made it through together. For each event I made the proper adjustments to follow Covid guidelines and my clients were still able to have their happy moments despite changes due to Covid Q: What are your biggest goals with your business 2021? For 2021 my goal is expansion. I would like to establish clientele in different states and also grow my event rental business even more. I would like to stay consistent with providing the hottest items out right now. A warehouse and business vehicles are also in the works.
