Charlana Brown and Otis Weary Jr. welcomed their new healthy baby boy recently. The couple appeared on Season 3 of Own Network's "Put a Ring on It" this past Spring. Since then, the two have been busy adjusting to the new member of the family.
Charlana Brown is originally from Detroit Michigan but was raised in Los Angeles California. She has been an athlete most of her life. She has worked with numerous athletic brands for commercials and print. Brands include Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Asics, Sketchers and that's to name a few.
Celebrity Executive Chef and culinary artist Otis Weary Jr. is the principal of Velvet Hospitality Group, located in Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles, New York City, and Houston. Although his professional training began at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, ranking as one of the finest hospitality management, culinary arts, and gastronomy institutions in the world, Weary says his inspiration for cooking began at a young age.
Leading with Lee had the pleasure of interviewing both Charlana and Otis.
Q. Welcome, back Charlana, and welcome Otis! It's a pleasure to interview both of you. First, can you tell us a little background about your union and about your new bundle of joy?
Charlana: Otis and I have been together going on four years now. We recently welcomed baby O in June of this year. It's been an amazing time for us as new parents.
Otis: We met at a film festival in Miami summer 19' and hit it off almost instantly.
Q. Otis, can you tell us who or what inspired your culinary career and how
were you able to join OWN's Put a Ring on It?
My culinary career was inspired by my cooking experiences in my family primarily on my father's side. Literally everyone cooks, men and women, and children of age. Everyone. It's a Louisiana thing. I joined Put A Ring on It after someone reached out to Charlie about us applying for the show. After several interviews, we were finally selected as finalists.
Q. Charlana, besides being a new mom, and fiancé to Otis, what new achievements and projects took place since we last spoke to you?
I've actually taken some time off. I had a C-Section and so I gave myself some time to get back. I'm just now starting to feel up to working again. Besides, my agents are calling.
Q. How are you guys adjusting to your schedules while being new parents?
Charlana: We are adjusting! I am able to be with the baby throughout the day
which is very important because I am breastfeeding. We make it work. Otis
has a full work schedule but he does an amazing job of helping with
everything.
Q. What do you guys like to do for fun as a family?
Otis: We like to travel, take walks, dine out, attend events, visit friends and family locally and most of all, enjoy quality time at home with just the three of us.
Charlana: Otis is always cooking and grilling with family. We all love to eat!
Q. What does success mean to you?
Otis: Success to me means Happiness. In most if not all areas of my life. Nothing is more successful than being truly happy and at peace.
Q. What advice can you give aspiring entrepreneurs who would like to turn their dreams into realities?
Otis: Work harder. Simply work, harder. Never give up. Try and try and try again.
Charlana: Just Do It! Go after what you want.
